From Hoi An a quick day trip to see the Champa ruins at My Son The Champa ruins at My Son make for an interesting day trip out of Hoi An. On the recommendation of fellow travelers I booked a trip that left Hoi An early in the morning (like 6 AM or so) so that the visit to the sight is earlier in the day before the heat sets in. I was happy to have done this as the heat was oppressive even at 9 and 10 in the morning. Our tour guide took us around and gave us the history of the Champa people and their settlement at My Son, including the bombing of the site during the Vietnamese War (or, as it's referred to here, the "War of American Aggression"). The site was definitely getting some upgrades that were still under construction like the new visitors' center and a new bridge that would carry visitors over one of the local rivers.
