Home/2001 photos/Backcountry Skiing Echo Lakes

a ski around the Echo Lakes region After last year's fiasco, we decide to give it another go. This time, we choose the Echo Lakes basin as our destination. The ski in was pretty straightforward but we had a few beginners in our mist so it was a little tough on them. But we eventually got to a good place to plant our tents and went about setting up our campsite. The following day we skied up a slope and took a couple of fun runs while others lounged around camp setting up snow caves, practicing avalanche awareness skills, or just enjoying the sun (and the lack of a backpack on the shoulders). The ski out was as straightforward as the ski in with the exception of the lake crossing... is it frozen enough to ski over? Why not send Christian out first to find out... luckily, I guess it was frozen enough!
