Home/2010 photos/Death Valley Roadtrip

a couple of days in the desert Death Valley is huge. You realize this not by looking at a map but by driving through or around it. The roads go on forever. Meghan and I took a roadtrip with the pooch from San Francisco to check out the desert in the spring. We drove down the central valley to Bakersfield and then cut across the southern tip of the Sierra Nevada. Our first night we spent in a howling storm at 6,000 feet above the Valley (but inside the park boundary). But the weather cleared some and we enjoyed hiking and driving around the park. We drove up hwy 395 along the Eastern side of the Sierra, definitely my favorite drive in California. Along the way we stopped in to check out Manzanar, the WWII Japanese internment camp, which is being turned into a monument and interpretive center.
