Photos of the Perito Moreno Glacier While in El Calafate, I signed up for a trek to the Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciars National Park in Chile. We took a bus ride out to the park where we visited the main overlook of the glacier. From this vantage point you can see the full glacier stretching out into the distance. We were perched above the point where the glacier blocks the flow of water which eventually results in a section of the glacier collapsing each year (this section had already prematurely collapsed this year). After visiting the overlook we took a boat across the lake and began our trek on the ice. We suited up with some medieval looking crampons and stepped out onto the ice. Walking on the glacier provided a great vantage point to view the scenery but I was a little disappointed as I was expecting a more rugged trek, given the promotion from the company through who I booked the tour. We lucked out with a beautiful day and great visibility.
