From Munich I hopped on an overnight train to Berlin.  The train was an excellent Austrian line that was comfortable and spacious.  I woke up in the early morning making my way into Berlin.   Arriving in Berlin was a little other-worldly.  I stepped into the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof surprised by the modernity of the station.  I met up with dad and Eta and we spent the morning walking around the area by the new train station – out to the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Tor, and around Pariser Platz and that end of the Tiergarten.  It was amazing to see all of the construction gone and an entirely new area of the city back to its former glory.   That first day we also checked out Potsdam (where we ate lunch) before returning to Berlin to wander around some of the old haunts of my dad’s, like the Henry Ford Bau in the Freie Universitat .   The following day we drove down to Wittenberg and spent the day walking around town and looking at some of the historic sights from Martin Luther’s time including a great museum dedicated to his life’s work.  Back in Gros Glienicke Evelyn and Maria joined us for dinner.   On our last day up North, we drove out to the town of Brandenburg and the villages of Schmerzke and Netzen where my Grandparents are from.  We spent the morning wandering around – mostly around the Brandenburg Dom.   All too soon it was time to say good bye.  We drove out to Tegel airport where we caught our Air Berlin flight down to Nuremburg.
