Backcountry skiing in the Eastern Sierra A big group of us head over to the East side of the Sierra for a long weekend up at Tioga Pass Resort. We enjoyed the stay so much last year that we decided to do it again. After an evening in Lake Topaz we made our way down to Highway 120 for the ski in to the Lodge. This year we were met by a pickup outfitted with cat tracks to take us most of the way up the road. After the short ski into the Lodge, a few of us made our way across the snowed-over road for a few quick turns on the "bread runs." The evening was spent having a few drinks, playing a few games and enjoying the great meals provided by the resort. Next day we all head out from the Lodge and skied around a while as a group but eventually Jim, Earl, Jimbo and I peeled off and took a few turns on some downhills. The snow was awesome and we couldn't ask for better skiing. We were having a blast. After running around in the snow for a while we made our way back to the resort for more drink, food, merriment and relaxing. On our final day Jim, Earl and I took an extra run above Ellery Lake but unfortunately it was pretty wind blown so it made for some rough times. Another great weekend and looking forward to the next trip back.
